Can Blogging be ministry?

Ministry: the office, duties, or functions of a minister. Merriam-Webster Dictionary

When I think of ministry, I think of people. I think of all the individuals in this world that, in some way or other, are like me. By that I mean I think of all of the people who have been challenged in life with obstacles and, one way or another, needed a little help or direction to make it through successfully.

When I think of ministry I also remember all of the times people have aided and assisted me… sometimes when asked; sometimes on their own accord. While reflecting on broken places and confusing times my mind crystallizes the fact that the folks who reached out when I lost sight were the ones that really embodied ministry to me. Those who, while in the midst of their own life, dealing with their own concerns, PAUSED so that they could help someone else. With that said, I think that every individual has the ability to minister at some level. The only difference is that some people do this casually while others make it a lifestyle. It is my genuine desire to be the latter of the two.

I believe that I was called to church ministry for no other reason than it is where I will be most effective. God was kind enough to bless me with many gifts and I cannot think of another career path in which I will have the opportunity to use these gifts more often or with more sincerity. My theology still leads me to believe that there is pleasure and peace in serving others and thus, serving God. My desire is to please God.

What excites be about working in the church (and writing this blog) is the unique opportunity to help other individuals grasp hold of concepts that will possibly alter their thinking which may modify their lifestyle. This ultimately will revolutionize their life. I have also been taught to take ministry ‘one soul at a time.’ With every facet of life being so interconnected the successful ministry to one could ignite change everywhere. More importantly, I honestly believe that there is no way outside of ministry that can make my life more pleasing to God, regardless of who heeds to the teaching or the assistance offered from God through me.
